The Valley of the Bustards is no Longer a Protected Area
The Minister of Environment and Waters - Dzhevdet Chakarov ordered the protected area Valley of the bustards to be removed from the register of protected areas on the territory of the villages of Dropla, Kremena and Zmeevo municipality Balchik, Dobrich region.
The order was issued on the basis of Art. 42, par. 5 in conjunction with art. 41, section 1 of the Protected Areas Act because of the fact that in the protected area Valley of the bustards, previously announced by Order № 2968 of the General Department of Forestry in the Council of Ministers on 24.11.1961, were not seen specimens of the species great bustard (Otis tarda); there are no large areas such as meadows and steppes, which are typical habitats of the great bustard, and for this reason the protected area does not serve its purpose and its category cannot be changed to another.
The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters- Varna should take the necessary actions to make the changes in the plan for ownership of the restored lands. The order may be appealed under the Administrative Code in front of the Supreme Administrative Court within one month of its publication in the National Gazette (13.02.2009).
