Bulgaria Walks out of Burgas-Alexandroupolis Pipeline.

Bulgaria's prime minister announced that the country will dump the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline project over fears that it is unprofitable and damaging for the country. Borisov singled out the resistance of the people in the Black Sea region of Burgas among the arguments in support of his decision. The pipeline passes through protected areas from the European environmental protected area network Natura 2000. According to the prime minister there are no guarantees for us to see returns in the short term. According to the Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism the Cabinet has not decided to walk out from the project Burgas-Alexandroupolis project and to freeze Belene NPP. Former Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov suspects that "Burgas – Alexandroupolis” project is suspended and that “Belene” is postponed in order to satisfy American interests.
